What it is and how it is specified

ZM coatings add aluminium and magnesium to the zinc bath. The magnesium forms a more stable corrosion product, and the coating gives a degree of cut-edge protection that plain galvanized does not, which is why it is specified for solar mounting structures and coastal work.

ZM is not the same product as Galvalume. Galvalume is aluminium-predominant at roughly 55% aluminium; ZM remains zinc-predominant. That distinction decides the tariff heading and therefore the duty exposure, so it is worth getting right on the paperwork before the goods sail.
