Despite growing local capacity from mills like ISL and ASL, Pakistan's flat steel demand across HRC, CRC, GP, PPGI, and Galvalume categories still exceeds domestic production, making Chinese mill imports a permanent part of the supply chain. Chinese mills offer scale, product range, and competitive base pricing that make imports attractive whenever the duty and freight math works in the buyer's favor.
Not all Chinese mills produce to the same quality consistency, and specification drift between shipments is a common risk for first-time importers. Working through an experienced trading partner with existing mill relationships reduces the risk of receiving off-spec coil and typically secures better pricing than a buyer approaching mills directly at low volumes.
Most Chinese mill transactions are settled through an LC, which protects both sides but requires careful structuring around tolerance clauses, partial shipment terms, and documentation requirements to avoid discrepancies that delay payment or shipment release. LC facilitation is one of the most common points of friction for buyers new to importing, and errors here can add weeks of delay or unexpected bank charges.
Landed cost is built from FOB price, ocean freight, insurance, Customs Duty, Additional Customs Duty (ACD), Regulatory Duty (RD) where applicable, sales tax, and withholding tax on imports. These rates change with each Finance Bill, so a landed-cost model that was accurate six months ago may no longer reflect current policy, particularly for HRC and Galvalume-category products which have both seen recent tariff and anti-dumping/anti-circumvention adjustments.
After shipment, customs clearance at Karachi port requires accurate HS code classification, complete documentation, and often coordination around anti-dumping or valuation rulings specific to certain flat steel categories. Delays at this stage are usually documentation-driven and avoidable with proper preparation before the vessel arrives.
Raw Easy Corp facilitates flat steel imports end-to-end, from Chinese mill sourcing and negotiation through LC structuring and customs clearance, giving buyers a single point of accountability instead of managing five separate vendors. For businesses importing flat steel for the first time, or scaling volume beyond what a single LC can efficiently cover, this reduces both cost and execution risk.
